RCN MEDICAL MISSIONS REPORTING Michika, Adamawa State 13th and 14th April, 2025 1. Background / Team The RCN Missions’ Hospital was commissioned in 2024 with a mandate to deliver affordable, accessible and high-quality healthcare driven by love and guided by faith. Through its core programs: • AromeCare (Medical Missions / Outreaches) • DinnaCare (Women & Children Support) • DOCcare (Community Health Interventions) the hospital extends healthcare to distant and rural communities across Nigeria. The RCN Medical Missions Team conducted a two-day free medical outreach in Michika Local Government Area, Adamawa State. The team consisted of a Medical Doctor, Nurses, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Pharmacy Technician, Records Officer and Logistics Officer. Community volunteers also supported crowd control and patient flow. 2. Activities Pre-visit, visit, and post-visit procedures were carried out to ensure effective outreach execution. 3. Beneficiaries Residents of Michika Local Government Area, Adamawa State. 4. Aims / Goals To deliver: • Health education • Basic and essential health checks • Medical consultation services • Screening and diagnostics • Counselling (emotional and spiritual) • Free medications 5. Impact Assessment Qualitative: Participants received: • Health talk • Vital signs check • Laboratory tests including: - Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Test - Hepatitis B (HBsAg) - Hepatitis C - Blood sugar test - Widal test - HIV Rapid Test • Counselling with privacy • Free medications Quantitative: Day 1: • 128 patients (85 females, 43 males) • Ages: 1 year – 90 years Day 2: • 149 patients (107 females, 42 males) • Ages: 8 months – 80 years 6. Medical Missions Vital Summary Statistics Total individuals attended: **277** Bio-demographic summary: • Ages: 8 months – 90 years • Highest represented age group: 41–50 years (18.7%) • Second highest: 31–40 years (15.4%) • Least represented: 11–20 years (5.2%) • Females: 70.8% of attendees Vital Signs: • 259 temperature checks – majority between 36.6–37.5°C • 220 pulse checks – 91.4% within 60–100 bpm • 225 blood pressure checks – majority within 90/60–130/90 mmHg Laboratory Tests: • Blood sugar: 10 tests – 90% normal • Malaria: 15 tests – 33.3% positive • Hepatitis B: 2 tests – 50% positive • Hepatitis C: 1 test – 100% negative • HIV (RVS): 2 tests – 50% positive Common Diagnoses: • Dyspepsia/PUD (31.8%) • Malaria (26.2%) • Hypertension & Low Back Pain (12.4% each) • Enteric fever (11.6%) • URTI (8.6%) • Osteoarthritis, eye conditions and others Referrals: • 4 individuals (1.5%) required secondary referral Medications: • High-volume medications: paracetamol (43.1%), amoxicillin, metronidazole, antimalarials, ibuprofen, gelusil, omeprazole, loratadine, amlodipine, nifedipine, diclofenac, albendazole. • Additional medicines included antibiotics, vitamins, cough syrups, pediatric suspensions and specialized treatments. 11. Challenges & Recommendations Challenges: • Inadequate publicity for day two • Limited clinicians (only one doctor, no pharmacist) • Language barriers • Manual data entry delays Recommendations: • Agree and communicate exact outreach times to team/community • Provide medication lists for practitioners • Secure volunteers early • Provide interpreters where needed 12.
